8 year old Havish prefers Table Tennis to Cricket

When the child is around 7 – 8 years old, he or she generally takes interest to watch television, or play in the neighborhood, with friends in the age group. Majority of the parents  of such children are happy to see their children engaged in something. But, for 8 year old Havish Asrani , it’s a different story. For the past 2 years, Havish has been taking interest in ground games. Looking at his interest, his parents sent him for cricket training at Bandra YMCA and Havish really did well.

However about 1 and a half year ago, it was raining heavily and Havish just wanted to keep himself busy with some sports activity. So, he started playing Table Tennis. Soon, he developed interest in this indoor game, as it was an individual game. Today, in the Under 10 category, he is ranked no. 1, in the Mumbai Suburban District.

3rd  standard student of Jasuben M.L. School, Khar, Havish is trained by Sudhir Jadhav at Sane Guruji Academy at Santacruz. Recently, he joined Guruprasad Parte Table Tennis Academy at MLWB, at Dadar, where he plays twice a week, since he lives at Bandra.

Magzmumbai met him at MLWB, during the Open TT tournament conducted by Guruprasad parte TT Academy.Havish had to play in U-12 Boys’ category. Yet, he put up a very good show, reaching the finals of this event and that too losing  narrowly on match points in the decider to Samhihan Kulkarni.

But, with his fine performance, using  his deceptive stylish backhand strokes well , this little left hander  won the hearts of the spectators present on the occasion. Surely this little boy has a bright future. Havish’s father Amit Asrani, is happy with the progress of his son. “I am glad that he has kept himself engaged in this sport. I only wish that, now that he is playing TT well,  he doesn’t get distracted to other sports, like Cricket,” he said.
