Renowned action director of Bollywood films Veeru Devgan died on 27 May 2019 in Mumbai. He was 85. He is survived by his wife Veena & four children Ajay, Anil, Neelam & Kavita. Veeru Devgan was not keeping well for sometime due to old age . Father of well known actor and film maker Ajay Devgan, he began his career way back in 1974. He directed fight and action scenes for over 80 Hindi films including some of the hit films like ‘Mr. Natwarlal’, Mr. India, ‘Aakhri Raasta’ and ‘Shahenshah’. In one of the films ‘Phool aur Kante’ his son Ajay Devgan made his acting debut and this film was also full of action scenes which were directed by him.
Veeru Devgan even ventured into direction with 1999 with the film ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’ starring his son Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan, Manisha Koirala and Sushmita Sen. I had met Veeru Devgan on few occasions during the shootings of his films around the period 1986 to 1991 and found him to be the most dedicated person to his work. On the sets of ‘Shahenshah’ at Seth Studios he was busy planning the scene in advance, in which Amitabh Bachchan comes and challenges the main villain Amrish Puri and his associates , the owner of a beautiful bungalow, by destroying the valuables. A very cool and calm person with simplicity that he was described , the film industry has lost a perfect gentleman.
