To celebrate 50 years of their acting career in Bollywood is a big achievement for any artiste. Joining the team of bigwigs like Dilip Kumar , Waheeda Rehman, Mala Sinha, Biswajeet , Jitendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini and others, this year actress Rekha also celebrates her 50 years in Bollywood.
Rekha made her debut in 1970 along with another debutant Navin Nicshol with the film ‘Sawan Bhadon’, which turned out to be a hit film for both. In spite of big competition from the already established stars of that period, the new pair was well accepted by Hindi film lovers and there was no stopping for them in the following years. Thanks to Producer director Mohan Segal for spotting these two talented artistes.
Born as Bhanurekha Ganesan to actors Gemini Ganesan and Pushpawali, Rekha has acted in more than 180 Hindi films and won a National film award and three filmfare awards. Rekha who is still active with her physical presence at selected award functions and parties, was seen on the screen last in 2015 in R. Balki’s film ‘Shamitabh’ where she played herself. What is important is that at 66 she is still fit and active and I am sure she will be able to give her best, if offered a suitable role of her choice.
