His name is often mistaken with that of Marathi’s superstar Swapnil Joshi. But, Swapnil Joshi ( Jr), as we may like to call him, has also found his own place in Marathi film industry. Last year, he performed as a lead hero opposite Miss Heritage India International Shital Upare, in the Marathi film ‘Indian Premacha Lafada’(IPL). Swapnil had earlier performed with Shital Upare. And, before that he had performed in another Marathi film ‘Four Idiots’.

Swapnil ( Jr.) whose film ‘Gurukul’ was released last Friday, received step motherly treatment from Cinemax multiplex, at Eternity Mall Thane. This was brought to the notice of Swapnil, by his friends, who had gone to see this film at this venue, on Monday. But, 45 minutes before the show, they were told that the show was houseful. When they informed Swapnil about it over phone , since he was at his sister’s place in Thane, he reached the theatre, within 15 minutes. When Swapnil, inquired at the theatre window, he was given another reason. Swapnil was told that the show was cancelled, due to some technical reason.
Smelling something fishy, Swapnil called up Cabinet Minister Eknath Shinde, who hails from Thane and also Mr. Vijay Patkar, president of Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal. This was followed by arrival of media persons in next half an hour. Watching this scene, the theatre management called the Police.
However, after coming to know that Swapnil was the actor in this film, the theatre manager finally apologized .But, Swapnil, who has now taken up this issue, will be having a meeting with Mr. Vijay Patkar and others and subsequently, the delegation will meet Chief Minister and Cultural Minister of Maharashtra, to submit their complaint against all those multiplex owners, who are playing dirty game, against Marathi films.
Incidentally, Swapnil’s another film ‘Bhavishyachi Aishi taishi’ is also releasing soon. So, one can understand his stand. While speaking to magzmumbai, Swapnil has stated that he would keep the fight on, as he really cares for Marathi films, which are now days doing extremely well all over the world. “Cancellation of show, seems to be a common excuse given by multiplex some owners, who don’t mind screening Hindi films, with poor attendance. Isn’t that discrimination?” asked Swapnil.
Magzmumbai, in the past had received similar type of complaints from theatres like Carnival ( Borivali) and Maxus ( Gorai-Borivali), where same excuse was given to those, who had gone to watch Marathi films on the first day.
