Aaqib Rahim nets hat-trick as Union Bank win big


 

Union Bank of India rode roughshod as they outplayed Mumbai Port Trust 6-1 in qualifying match of the MHAL organized 52nd Bombay Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, and played at the MHAL-Mahndra Stadium, Churchgate on Wednesday.

 

The hero of Union Bank’s win was Aaqib Rahim who notched a fine hat-trick.  Prince Chaurasia, Nitin Kumar and Suraj Sahi netted one each to complete the margin of victory. Mumbai Port Trust pulled one back through Anil Haq.

 

In the second match, Sports Authority of India riding on Dhiraj Wagh’s twin strikes and a goal each from Dilip Pal and Gurvinder Singh overcame Bombay Republicans 4-2. Angad Bir Singh and Kushal Meghwal scored a goal each for the losers.

 

Results: Union Bank of India 6 (Aakib Rahim 3, Prince Chaurasia, Nitin Kumar, Suraj Sahi) beat Mumbai Port Trust 1 (Anil Haq).

 

Sports Authority of India 4 (Dhiraj Wagh 2, Gurvinder Singh, Dilip Pal) beat Bombay Republicans 2 (Angad Bir Singh, Kushal Meghwal).
