‘Ab Tak Chappan-2’ – Only for Nana’s fans

Exactly after eleven years, Sadhu Agashe ,returns with ‘Ab Tak Chappan-2’. But, this time, it is not Ram Gopal Verma or Shimit Amin , to oversee the operations  of the encounter specialist; but, it is Aejaz Gulab, the stunt director, who has turned director, through this film. Produced by Raju Chada and Gopal Dalvi  ‘Ab Tak Chappan-2’ begins with suspended cop Sadhu Agashe( Nana Patekar) living a peaceful life in some village of Goa, with his grown up son ( Tanmay Jahagirdar). And, he is the same actor, who played the kid in the original film.ab tak poster

Far away in Mumbai, chief minister ( Dilip Prabhavalkar) a Gandhian with a clean image, suggests his home minister Jagirdar( Vikram Gokhale) to form a special squad to deal with the rise of two gangsters and the threat from terrorists. To persuade Sadhu, retired police commissioner Pradhan ( Mohan Agashe) is sent to Goa; but the eccentric Cop refuses to join the police force, till he is free from all the cases. Incidentally, he has been released on bail, pending court decision. Finally, on the advice of his dear son, who is a music lover, Sadhu  finally agrees to join the force and is welcomed by the CM and Home Minister. But, Sadhu’s posting as the chief of Special Squad, annoys Police Commissioner ( Govind Namdev), who is in favour of a young encounter specialist Suryakant ( Ashutosh Rana).

So, we find Asutosh Rana taking the place of Yashpal Sharma, the jealous deputy, in the original film.  Underworld Don Ravale ( Rajan Zutshi) seated on a self operated electronic wheel chair, tries to be friendly with Sadhu, always conversing with him over phone. This time, new inclusion is also in the form of Shali Dixit ( Gul Panag) a crime reporter, who is also writing a book on Crimes in Mumbai. Her late father, known to Sadhu, she receives all the help from Sadhu. The film moves on, with few encounters with rival gang of Ravale, as directed by the home minister.  And soon the plot becomes clear, as to who is the real culprit , after the assassination of the chief minister.

‘Ab Tak Chappan-2’ lacks in presentation of the subject and also in direction; as the film’s screenplay fails to appeal, as it did through the original film. The negative characters in the film, haven’t been build up properly. Therefore, the film loses the grip on few occasions. First 15 minutes, of this little less than 2 hour length film, have been wasted in persuading Sadhu,  to join the force. Govind Namdev has been wasted in this film. There is some scope to Ashutosh Rana and his scenes with Nana Patekar have turned interesting,  to generate some humour.  Gul Panag gets her share, to prove her ability through few scenes, in this otherwise male dominated film. Rajan Zutshi who is wheelchair ridden, is shown more as a puppet dancing on the tunes of the main villain in the film, disclosed in the concluding part of the film. Music doesn’t have much scope in this film; but, good photography by Siddhesh More is certainly a plus point of this film, besides Nana Patekar’s performance.  He  has tried his best to hold the attention of audience with his screen presence.

Don’t expect too much form this sequel, as it has an outdated theme. It is not as gripping as the original film. But, certainly a must for Nana’s fans.
