Action packed ‘BABY’ is a thriller

Director Neeraj Pandey’s latest movie takes on the subject of international terrorism. BABY is the name of an elite task force, which is  running for a small period of 5 years and hence the name. They have been fairly successful and the movie is about their last operation to kill a terrorist and bring another one to justice.baby

The movie starts on a promising note, with some bloody action scenes. As the movie progresses,  it shows us different activities happening simultaneously, around the globe as one terror plot and an attempt to foil it. In the end, they bring one  most wanted terrorist alive to India, from Saudi Arabia and majority of the second half covers this.  The movie in its attempt to show so many things at a time, looks a bit haywire in the beginning. Towards the interval,  it gains a lot momentum. Post interval, it retains the required momentum,  but as the movie progresses further, we realise that it has lost its track .

The movie is bit too long, for such thrillers. A run time of 2 hrs and 30 mins, has not been justified. There is attention to some needless details,  in many of the scenes, which have been extended. Neeraj fails to keep the audience engaged till the end.  The main antagonist and even Kay Kay Menon,  have been underutilized heavily,  which also pulls  the movie from reaching its climax. Also, the final sequence , seems to be lifted from a Oscar winning movie of 2011

The movie though has been exquisitely shot,  in terms of locales. Akshay Kumar seems at his natural best in such roles. He pulls it off with ease. Some confrontational scenes,  are really well scripted and bring the thump in the movie. Danny and Anupam are in good supporting roles. Some scenes and dialogues bring out the essential patriotism in the movie. Sushant Singh makes a comeback in a small role. The fight scene involving Sushant and newcomer Tapsee Pannu too is entertaining.

The movie has its ups and downs,  but overall , it is definitely a good movie to watch. Neeraj Pandey has tried putting in a lot of facets together, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. So,  go in for a good thriller and you will definitely come satisfied.
