All-rounder Lawande inspires Rizvi College to 34-run victory

Inter-College cricket:

All-rounder Varun Lawande’s superb performances with bat and ball were instrumental in guiding Rizvi College to a 34-run victory against Kirti College in a second round match of the 8th Late Saqib Rizvi Memorial Inter-Collegiate Rotating Trophy Cricket Tournament, organised by the Junior College’s Sports Association of Mumbai, under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and sponsored by the Rizvi Education Society.

Rizvi College after winning the toss and deciding to bat first, found the going tough. But thanks to opener Lawande’s face-saving knock of 81 runs, they managed to post a score of 246 all out from their quota of 40 overs.

Later off-spinner Lawande tormented the opposition batsmen and picked up four wickets for 28 runs as Kirti College innings collapsed for just 212 runs in 38.2 overs and handing Rizvi a win by 34 runs. Lawande was the obvious choice for the ‘Man of the match’ award.
