Celtic emerge BWFA champions


Celtic 7070 emerged champions as they scored a hard-fought 2-1 win against AK Chimbai in an enthralling Men’s Premier Division finals of the 15th Bandra West Football League 2016, sponsored by Baba Siddique & Zeeshan Siddique and conducted by the BWFA (Bandra West Football Association) and played at the Dr. Norman Lewis Supari Talao, Municipal grounds. The champs Celtic scored both their goals in the first session through Altamesh Sayed and Karan Kapoor while Chimbai pulled one back through Arif Qureshi’s strike in the second half.

In a fast-paced and entertaining clash, both teams went on an all-out attack from the start and there was plenty of action in front of goal at either end. However, it Celtic who managed to draw first blood in the 15th minute when Altamesh Sayed with a measured chip for the edge of the penalty area beat rival goalkeeper Saad Patanwala to trigger celebrations in their camp.

A few minutes before the lemon time Celtic doubled the lead when Karan Kapoor trapped a long pass from Alyque Virjee and advanced into the box before slotting past goalkeeper Patanwala to give his supporters another opportunity to break into a jig.

The tempo continued after resumption and mid way through the half Chimbai reduced the deficit when Arif Qureshi’s with a powerful essay found the back of the net beating Celtic custodian Sheldon Raghavan, who otherwise was outstanding under the bar.

Celtic received the glittering trophy and the cash award of Rs 30,000 from Congress leader Baba Siddique, while AK Chimbai also received a trophy and a cash award of Rs 20,000.

Special awards were presented to Altamash Sayyed (Celtci 7070),who was named ‘Player of the Tournament’ and Best Forward, Sheldon Raghavan (Celtic 7070) as Best Goalkeeper and Joshua Vessaoker (AK Chimbai) as Best Defender.
