‘Dangal’ inspires with its emotion filled sports based action drama

Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan is known for his films on interesting subjects. Initially, he offered a sensible film like ‘Lagaan’, which was set on the backdrop of a village during the pre independence days, where a young protagonist  succeeds in uniting the villagers against the harassment from a British ruler in their region. The film was a super hit, because of its climax based on the game of cricket, which has become the most popular sport today.Dangal poster

Now, Aamir Khan has returned with his latest  film on the  game of wrestling ,by presenting the story of  Mahavir Singh Phogat  a local wrestler who taught wrestling to his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari. So, in this film we see how Mahavir Singh ( Aamir Khan) trains and motivates his daughters Geeta(Fatima Sana Shaikh   ) and Babita (Sanya Malhotra) to not only win medals at national level but also at Commonwealth games.

The film highlights the training methods of the official NIS trained coaches differ from that of former players into coaching.  One particular dialogue(It’s like asking Sehwag to play like Dravid) uttered by Mahavir Singh against the approach of NIS coach ( Girish Kulkarni) at the preparatory training camp before commonwealth games, says it all. The film also shows the attitude and wrong approach of all such NIS trained coaches, which prevents the national level players from performing better at international meets.  The film also highlights their pressure on the players to reduce weight, to enable the players to participate in the lower weight group.

The screenplay of this film has been well developed to make most of the scenes filled with emotions, besides maintaining the action for sports lovers.  Aamir Khan, who is the central character of this film, has put in lot of efforts to play this most difficult character in two different age groups. He steals the show with his wonderful performance, especially in all those emotion filled scenes. Good support comes from  Fatima Sana Shaikh,  Sanya Malhotra, Girish Kulkarni, Sakshi Tanwar and other child artistes. Music of this film is however not so impressive.  But, the direction by Nitesh Tiwari and cinematography by Sanya Malhotra are also worth appreciating factors. ‘Dangal’ is a must see film for all sports lovers.
