Double crown for Manasi


Manasi Chiplunkar had twin successes, winning the Youth Girls’ and Junior Girls’ singles titles in the 5-Star Mumbai City District Table Tennis Championship 2016, supported by 11even Sports & Bajaj Group and played at University Pavilion, Marine Lines.

Displaying great character and possessing a fine array of strokes, Manasi quelled the spirited challenge from Krisha Agarwal in both the Junior Girls’ singles and Youth Girls’ singles finals.

In the title clash of Junior Girl’s event, the top-seeded Manasi dropped the opening game to second seed Krisha, but bounced back strongly, by winning the next four games on the trot to complete a deserving 9-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-6, 11-3 victory.

Later, in the Youth Girls final, Manasi, once again seeded one, was in total control and with not much of resistance from the second-seeded Krisha, went on to cruise to a comfortable straight games 11-6, 11-6, 11-5, 11-7 triumph and complete a grand double.

Meanwhile, Mudit Dani lifted the Youth Boys’ singles title defeating Parthav Kelkar 11-5, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 11-5.

Shweta Parte and Paresh Murekar claimed the women’s and men’s singles crowns respectively. Shweta was on a roll and cruised to a quick 11-7, 12-10, 11-6, 11-5 win against Ruchira Manekar to emerge champion, while the seasoned Paresh put to good advantage his vast experience and tame Tanmay Rane to complete a well-earned 11-8, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9 win for the title.

Attractive trophies, medals and certificates were given to all the prize winners.

Women singles: Shweta Parte bt Ruchira Manekar 11-7, 12-10, 11-6, 11-5.

Midget Boys singles: Siddharth Shah bt Meer Bhuva 11-9, 11-6, 11-3.

Youth Boys singles: Mudit Dani bt Parthav Kelkar 11-5, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 11-5.

Men’s singles singles: Paresh Murekar bt Tanmay Rane 11-8, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9.
