Fighter Jash Modi storms into Jr. boys Q/F


Tiny built Jash Modi, a 13-year-old, made a terrific impact while making winning debut in the junior boys singles as he ousted fancied Dhruv Das 3-2 to breeze into the junior boys singles quarterfinals in the JVPGC-All-Mumbai 4-star ranking table tennis tournament, hosted by Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana  here today.

Jash started with a bang and gave his rival  no time to settle down to go one-up. But he erred in the second to let Dhruv fight back .The fighter in Jash came to the fore in the third game as he hit hard on both flanks to lead 2-1. The fourth game was saw both fighting tooth and nail before Das clinched it over extra points. The decider, however, saw Jash keeping his nose ahead before he triumphed 11-3, 6-11,11-5, 10-12, 11-9.

The initial rounds of Veterans singles played late in the evening and stretched till 11.30 pm , noticed many upsets. Satish Kulkarni beat Abhay Mehta, but later lost to Nitish Kumar in Pre Quarter finals. Finalist in the MCF tourney last month, Sunil Kelkar also lost to Anup Dholam in the first round, while Sanjay Mehta beat Sarosh Shroff in the first round. However, Sanjay later lost to Harish Shirsat in the very next round. In pre quarter finals Suas Rane toppled top seed Rajesh Singh 3-0. In other pre quarter final matches of Veterans Singles Prakash kelkar beat Gurcharan Singh3-1 ,  Jayant Kulkarni beat Kapil Kumar, Samir Bhate beat Yogesh Desai 3-0 & Dinkar shelarka beat Samir Deo3-0.

The Quarter finals line up in  Veterans Singles will be, Suhas Rane v/s Harish Shirsat; Sameer Bhate v/s Nitish Kumar; Prakash Kelkar v/s Dinkar Selarka, Jayant Kulkarniv/s Percy Mehta.
