Free Cancer Health Check-up Camp held in Navi Mumbai

A Free health camp for assessing and diagnosing cancer was organised by Krishnai Hospital, Plot No. 51, Maratha Bhavan Rd, Sector 15, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra 400703, on Jan 13, 2017. According to research, over 8.23 lakh people are expected to succumb to the disease in 2017 while the figure is estimated to shoot up to 8.8 lakh by 2020. Only 12.5 percent of patients come for treatment in early stages of the disease.Free cancer camp

Commenting upon the need and importance of such awareness camps Dr.Donald John Babu, Surgical Oncologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon at the MGM Hospital said “It is essential to make the people aware about this disease and  encourage them to see their doctor if any unusual change is observed by them in their body as that could perhaps be  a sign of cancer. Detection of cancer at an early stage can be successfully treated and cured”. It has been observed that due to limited awareness about cancer symptoms, people end up going to their doctor at a very late stage when their disease has advanced.

Among females, breast cancer tops the list and among males mouth cancer, said Dr.Donald John Babu. “An annual breast screening is must after the age of 40 and cervical cancer screening is a must after first sexual intercourse,” he said. Today, the level of awareness has to be increased and more importantly the need of the hour is to educate people about the symptoms of cancer, says Dr.Donald John Babu. Self-examination is a must to detect cancer at an early stage and such free cancer screening and awareness camps are aimed at spreading awareness on symptoms of cancer and early detection. Many people cannot assess the symptoms in early stages said Dr. Donald John Babu and such free camps are sure ways of winning a battle against cancer.

Renowned Oncologist Dr. Donald John Babu has consulted and screened 70-100 patients at the camp. The newly diagnosed cases due to screening in this camp were five.

Present at the Free Screening Cancer Camp was Mayor of Navi Mumbai, Mr. Sudhakar Sambhaji Sonawane. A team of doctors that comprised of a general physician, an Oncologist, and Pathologist were present at the Free Cancer Health Check-up Camp and conducted the medical screening. The camp was organised at the Krishnai Hospital to enable maximum people to come and gain benefits of formal medical counseling.
