G.M. Police charge into Padmakar Talim Shield cricket final


 

Greater Mumbai( G.M.) Police Sports Club recorded a fluent 4-wicket win against Dr. D.Y. Patil SA in a semi-final match of the Padmakar Talim Shield Cricket Tournament 2017-2018, and played at the Police Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive on Sunday.

 

All-rounder Chirag Kkurana played a stellar role in Mumbai Police’s win. He first picked three wickets for 35 runs and later scored a useful 41 runs which put the policemen on the road to victory.

 

Mumbai Police electing to field first, did well to restrict D.Y. Patil to 254 for 7 wickets in their stipulated 45 overs. Opener Shoaib Shaikh (54 runs) and middle order batsman Sarvesh Damle (81 runs) were mainly responsible in helping D.Y. Patil set a target of 355 runs for the cops.

 

In reply, Mumbai Police were provided with a solid start from openers Agni Chopra (47 runs) and Humayun Hirapure (65 runs) as they laid the foundation building a 99-run partnership for the first wicket. Later, Khurana and Swapnil Kulaye 34 not out ensured that the policemen crossed the finish line scoring 255 for 6 wickets in 44.5 overs. Pravin Tambe was the only successful bowler with 3 for 49.

 

Brief scores: Dr. D.Y. Patil SA 254 for 7 in 45 overs (Sarvesh Damle 81, Shoaib Shaikh 54, Yogesh Pawar 34*; Chirag Khurana 3/35, Somsing Rawal 2/61) lost to Greater Mumbai Police Sports Club 255 for 6 in 44.5 overs (Humayun Hirapure 65, Agni Chopra 47, Chirag Khurana 41, Swapnil Kulaye 34*; Pravin Tambe 3/49). Result: Greater Mumbai Police Sports Club won by 4 wickets.
