‘Jolly LLB-2’ exposes the truth behind a fake encounter case

In the year 2013 , we saw a film ‘Jolly LLB’ , which was a  courtroom black comedy-drama film, written and directed by Subhash Kapoor. Now, the same writer director has presented a sequel in the form of ‘Jolly LLB-2’ which is also a  gripping courtroom black comedy drama which mocks the corrupt practices adopted by a so called high profile lawyer, while defending a corrupt police officer, involved in a fake encounter case of a mistaken identity.Jolly LLB2 home

The story of this film revolves around Jagdishwar Mishra( Akshay Kumar) who is desperate to establish his identity in his city. Jagdishwar cheats a widow Hina Siddiqui ( Sayani Gupta) who approaches him to convince his senior to take up her husband’s case, who is killed in a fake Police encounter. Having come to know that Jagdishwar has cheated her, by using her money for opening his chamber, Hina  commits suicide. Repenting on his mistake, Jagdishwar sells his office to fight her case against the cruel, corrupt and most powerful lawyer Sachin Mathur (Anu Kapoor).

The case is heard in the court of a whimsical but non corrupt Justice Sunderlal Tripathi ( Saurabh Shukla). When Sachin Mathur finds Jagdishwar succeeding in making his case strong, he uses his muscle power with the help of his Police Officer client, whom he is trying to prove not-guilty in this case. But, Jagdishwar manages to gather concerned witnesses to prove the fake encounter by the concerned Police officer. The film presents longest courtroom drama, but the clever director has made it interesting with gripping screenplay, comprising of well connected series of events.

Akshay Kumar is at his best in the character of Jagdishwar Mishra, while Huma Qureshi as his wife offers good support. But, the two men who have done well are Saurabh Shukla and Anu Kapoor, through their respective roles of a Justice Tripathi and defence lawyer Mathur respectively. The director has generated lots of humour through the courtroom battle in this film. Music doesn’t have much scope in this film, except for good background score by Vishal Khurana. Cinematography by Kamal Jeet Negi is also impressive. Certainly, a worth watch film.
