‘Junooniyat’ – a predictable love story

After ‘Sanam Re’ Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam are together once again in latest released film ‘Junooniyat’ written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri. But, this time, they are presented through a predictable love story, with a typical plot, which we have seen in many love stories of Bollywood, in the past.Jununiyat

‘Junooniyat’ begins on the backdrop of Kashmir, where  we see a young college girl Suhani kapoor ( Yami Gautam) acting smart by entering the restricted area to float in a lake.  She  is air lifted by an Army captain Jahan Bakshi ( Pulkit Samrat) and produced before his chief, for inquiry. The girl is asked to stay back for a day to complete the formalities, as her colleagues in the camp leave next day morning. It’s a Christmas party time, which brings Suhani closer to Jahan and  both fall in love.

But, when Suhani’s father goes against her daughter’s selection, as he has already lost three army officers  from his family, while serving at the border. Suhani’s sister in law Mishti ( Hrishita Bhatt) and her mother, support her, but they have no say in decision making in the joint family.  Finally, Suhani’s father  agrees for the marriage, provided Jahan leaves his army job and joins their family business of tractors.  But, the subsequent events go against their love and we find Suhani getting married to a NRI from Canada( Gulshan Devaiah)  .

The NRI man along with his family is rescued by Captain Jahan and his men, when they are trapped in a avalanche. This brings Jahan closer to their family, who invite him for the destination marriage of their son at Patiala. So, once again we see Jahan meeting Suhani . Jahan sings a song on the occasion, in the climax of the film, in a typical filmy style of 70s and 80s films and we notice a predictable end .

The film has too many songs and therefore, none of the songs remain on the lips of the audience, after the end of the film. The only good thing about this film is its wonderful cinematography, which has captured many picturesque locations in Amritsar, Patiala, Kashmir & Shimla. Speaking about the performances, Pulkit Samrat has done well but Yami Gautam, looks tired in the second half of the film, as she has nothing much to do, except for looking confused. Some of the dialogues in the film are good but the screenplay is predictable , which fails to hold the audience to their seats.  Gulshan Devaiah does well in his limited role. Hrishita Bhatt is a waste in this film, with nothing much to do. All in all, ‘Junooniyat’ is just an average entertainer.
