The 1st Maharashtra State Veterans Table Tennis Ranking Tournament held at Dervan, Chiplun concluded on Sunday evening. The tournament was held at Shree Vitthalrao Joshi Charitable Trust Sports Academy.

This weekend tourney had received overwhelming response from all senior players coming from different parts of Maharashtra, adding glory to this wonderful venue. Even heavy continuous rains in this region, could not stop the enthusiasm of these players.

Majority of the players who reached quarter final stage were from Mumbai, representing clubs and institutions like KamalaVihar & KRC , Kandivali, Gomantak, Vike Parle, BMC, PJ Hindu Gymkhana and so on. In the team event Prakash Punjabi owned team Century Warriors represented by Sunil Babras and Vivek Alwani won the team event.

In the finals individual events, four members of Kulkarni family dominated the scene. While former international Suhas Kulkarni played Men65 finals with his brother Satish, the younger brother Jayant challenged champion Prakash Kelkar in the finals of men 60.

Jayant’s wife Neeta Kulkarni was however unlucky not to reach finals of Women’s 50+ singles, as she lost to Dr. Anagha Joshi narrowly in a five game battle.

Neeta Kulkarni with her MLWB team mate Mangal Saraf also put up a good show in the Men’s team event , when the duo won the first two rounds, but they lost in quarter finals to strong team of Century warriors. They also had Deepak Dudhane in their team.
