The story of latest released film ‘Madaari’ is based on this important issue. Nirmal Kumar ( Irrfan) is a hardware engineer in Mumbai , who looks after his only school going son Appu, as his ambitious wife is abroad on a job assignment. One day, there is a bridge collapse and Nirmal Kumar’s son is one of the victims. Dejected with this unfortunate incidence, he is about to commit suicide after some days; but,  a thought comes to his mind, to teach a lesson to the highest authorities in the Government and also administrators and people involved in construction of the substandard  bridge.

As per his plan, Nirmal Kumar kidnaps the son ( Vishesh Bansal) of Home Minister, studying at a Hill station in northern India, despite security. The Home minister Goswami ( Tushar Dalvi) and  his  Party President Nimbalkar ( Uday Tikekar) then summon all those heading  intelligence department. But, the home minister   prefers Nachiket Jt. Director CBI, to investigate the case. The kidnapper does communicate with Nachiket and the Home Minister and insists on investigating cause of tragedy in which he has lost his son. He doesn’t give any clue, as he wants the entire department to work and find out his identity. In the meanwhile, we find Nirmal kumar moving from one place to other, constantly travelling by bus and train with the son of home minister in different get ups  and we find both of them falling into Stockholm syndrome. The kidnapper foils all the attempts of the investigating officer, tracing him. Finally, we witness  the dramatic climax, when Nirmal Kumar with the help of media make all those guilty, speak the truth about their corrupt practices.

The screenplay of the  film is gripping,  right from the start till the climax, giving it a realistic look ; but the climax scene has been  more dramatic and  reminds you of the climax of the film ‘Wednesday’. Director Nishikant kamat has succeeded in capturing all those emotion filled scenes between  Irrfan and Vishesh , including the last scene. Irrfan is at his best , as a protagonist,  but the director has cleverly extracted his potential, in different situations. There are hard hitting dialogues, reminding the elected representatives of our country,  about their duty to the people and their safety. Good support comes from little Vishesh Bansal  and supporting artistes like Tushar Dalvi, Uday Tikekar and above all Jimmy Shergil as investigation chief of the kidnap case. Music doesn’t have much scope, except for two background songs; but it sounds apt, for this kind of subject. But, Avinash Arun’s cinematography and Sameer Phaterphekar’s background music are more appealing.  Certainly, a thought provoking  film, which is a must watch, if you like Political thrillers.
