Mudra dance Festival on 22nd April 2016


The Mudra Dance Festival 2016 has been woven around the theme of animals, and after discovering stories of Garuda on Day 1, we move on to its enemy the snake on Day 2. Streevesham Kathakali artiste Probal Gupta will present the tale of the tribal goddess Manasa and her struggle to get recognition within the Hindu pantheon. This production will have English surtitles and will be accompanied by a live painting demonstration (inspired from Patachitra art) by artist Manjunath Wali. The story of Manasa gets propagated in the remotest corners of Bengal through the oral traditions of Pata gaan, accompanied by Patachitra paintings.Dance Fest

 

Probal Gupta is a senior disciple of the legendary Sadanam Balakrishnan and is one of the most promising Kathakali dancers today. He has been especially mentored by his guru Sadanamji for this production of Manasa Charitam which will premiere on 22nd April at the Mudra Dance Festival 2016.
