Police Cityriders score thumping win


Mumbai Police Cityriders openers Jay Bista and Hardik Tamore went hammer and tongs as they put on a record 215 partnership to see their side to beat Thane Marathas by 181 runs in the  double-leg Mitsui Shoji T-20 League, sponsored by Lal Bharwaney  and held at Oval Maidan, here today.

Sent  in to bat, Jay and Hardik were at their cracking best. Jay, who has been consistent right through the league, was unlucky to miss the three figure mark by four runs as he, going for a big hit, was caught in the deep for 96, which contained 14 fours and four sixes in the 13.4 overs. An over later, Hardik after duly completing his century too departed. Hardik’s whirlwind 113 had 10 sixes and nine fours. Chasing 283 for a win, Thane Maratha batsmen were never in the hunt and were bowled out for 101.

Kalpesh Sawant, coming at No.3 after  Shivaji Park Warriors lost both the openers early,  hammered 87 with 13 fours and three sixes as Shivaji Park Warriors upset defending champions Ghatkoper Jets by 51 runs. This was Shivaji Park’s second  win, while the defending champions suffered  their third loss in seven outings.
