‘Raabta’ – Weak presentation of reincarnation story

Raabta  is actually a Urdu word of Arabic origin which means a connection, relation, contact or bonding. Very often, it is used as an equivalent to Hindi word  ‘Rishta’. So, producer director Dinesh Vijan perhaps thought of presenting a romantic film on the backdrop of reincarnation, which usually works in Hindi, provided the screenplay is well presented and supported with good music. In the past, films like ‘Mahal’, ‘Madhumati’ , ‘Milan’, ‘karz’ & ‘Kudrat’ were well appreciated with good business.Raabta

So, there is nothing wrong if Dinesh Vijan attempting such a subject, through his new film ‘Raabta’. The film opens with Shiv (Sushant Singh Rajput)a fun loving womanizer moving from India to Budapest for a job as a banker, along with his friend Radha (Varun Sharma). Soon, the audience is introduced  to Saira (Kriti Sanon), who is haunted by mysterious nightmares of drowning to death. Sara lives in Budapest, working as a chocolatier.  Shiv meets  Saira at her shop,  while on a date with another woman, and gets attracted towards her. Initially, reluctant to respond Shiv’s advances, later   she succumbs and sleeps with him. Next day,  she reveals that  she has a boyfriend and does not want to betray him. Shiv plays his game in such a way that  her boyfriend breaks up with her . Then, we find Shiv and Saira coming  more closer with each other.

When one day both of them go  to a party with Radha,  they happen to meet an eccentric psychic, who knows about Saira’s past . The film takes a new twist, when  Saira reveals to Shiv her past life. Thereafter, what the audience see on screen is a real test of their patience. The film’s screenplay has failed to appeal the audience. Even the music is not so impressive to keep the audience engaged. Performances of the artistes are just ordinary. What impresses is the cinematography of this film. Watch this film at your own risk.
