“The legendary Late Vinoo Mankand or the great Kapil Dev are some of the best all-rounder’s India produced. But for me, Rajsingh was the best all-rounder. He had a good first class record having played 86 matches and took 206 wickets during an 18-year career. He was also a capable administrator, selector, manager and mentor to many young talented cricketers,” explained Yajurvindra, who was generous in his praise of the former CCI President.

Yajuvindra , who addressed Rajsingh as Uncle Rajsingh, revealed how he had helped the Indian team get over after making their exit from the 1979 World Cup in England. “After we (India) lost, the mood in the team was low, but Uncle Raj organised tickets for us to attend a Lata Mangeshkar concert at the Royal Albert Hall. We were thrilled to listen to the Indian Nightingale’s melodious voice,” he told the audience.

Also present were a host of former cricketers, including ex-India captain Mohd. Azharuddin, administrators and CCI members.

The elegant Indian batsman also lavished praise of Rajsingh as he spoke to media persons after the lecture. “Rajsingh had outstanding personality and was a man of etiquette. He was father-like figure for me,” stated Azharuddin who was appointed captain of the Indian team by the selection panel headed by Rajsingh.
