Sangram Singh Foundation felicitates ten legendary wrestlers


 

Showing its appreciation towards the former wrestlers who have made rich contributions towards the cause of wrestling in the country,Sangram Singh Foundation today felicitated ten former world class Olympian wrestlers with a trophy and a cash award.

The wrestlers who were felicitated were- our country’s first individual Olympian Late K.D Jadhav, Udey Chand, India’s first ever World Championship medal winner, Malwa Singh, former Olympian, Banda Patil Retharekar part of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics contingent, Bishamber Singh, Gold medalist at the1964 Common Wealth Games; Sajjan Singh, a 1962 Asian games Silver Medalists, Sajjan Singh, Arjuna Awardee and CWG Medalist; Mukhtiar Singh as well as Netra Pal, Charan Das and Ashok Garg. Malwa Singh will also be honoured for his contribution posthumously.

 

“I wanted all these former heavyweights of wrestling to know that the foundation they laid out during their time has been the reason the sport stands tall today. The Foundation will continue to work hard to create better circumstances for the aspiring wrestlers and take the sport to greater heights,” said Sangram Singh, the Champion of the 1st KD Jadhav Memorial International Wrestling Championship said.

 

The wrestlers who are given the award posthumously, their families were present at the ceremony to receive the awards. Along with these former greats of the sport, Union Cabinet Minister Maneka Gandhi was also there to support this cause along with Subhash Jewria, Owner of Cryptoinbox, the power behind this initiative, to give away the awards.
