St. Lawrence bag U-16 title; Don Bosco retain U-14 crown


St. Lawrence and Don Bosco, both from  Borivali , won  the Under-16 and under-14 football finals, defeating their respective opponents, St. Joseph’s (Malad) 2-0 and Lakshadham (Goregaon) 1-0 in the  Poinsur Gymkhana’s 42nd Utter Mumbai Krida Mahotsav- 2017,  held at Poinsur Gymkhana here today.

St. Lawrence boys were  more attacking  right through the contest. First Raj Ghorpade hit the target in the first half  with a long shot which saw  the leaping goalkeeper unable  to anticipate. Then in the second half, it was Utkarsh Rawat, who in a skirmish inside the box slipped the ball home. For Don Bosco in the  under-14 final, it was  Paul Almeida, whose shot from outside the box caught the goalkeeper off guard to help his side retain the title they won last year.

 

Earlier in the semifinals, St. Lawrence surprised fancied St. Francis D’Assisi after a barren first half scored through Faran Shaikh midway  in the second half. While Malad’s St. Joseph’s after  held goalless in the regulation period, put out Don Bosco via tie-breaker 4-3.
