22nd Late Ramanath Payyade Memorial Football
Karnatak Sports Club combined perfectly as a team and with former international Steven Dias and Ryan D’Souza spearheading their attack they romped to an authoritative 3-0 win against Mogaveera Sports Club SC in a first round league match of 22nd Late Shri Ramanath Payyade Memorial Football Tournament 2017-18, organised by the Karnatak Sporting Association and played at the KSA ground, Cross Maidan.
Mogaveera started well and had the better of exchanges initially, but Karnatak managed to take the lead when from a counter Ryan D’Souza slotted home in the 20th minute to give his team a slender 1-0 half-time lead.
After changing sides, Karnatak doubled the lead with dead-ball specialist Steven Dias scoring with a direct free-kick in the 39th minute before consistent scorer Roger Sam fired in the third goal in the 45th minute to complete the margin of victory.
In the second match, Jai Hind SC scored two early goals and went on to record an identical 3-0 win against Uchil United SC. Srinath Rathod opened the account for Jai Hind in the sixth minute before Winston D’Silva scored the second goal in the 11th minute to make it 2-0 at the half time. Later, Kumar Rathod scored third goal in the 56th minute to complete a deserving victory for Jai Hind.
