Supriya wins bronze in World Sr. Badminton


 

Supriya Devgun (Mumbai) along with her women’s doubles partner Nancy Tandon (Patiala), representing India, won the bronze medal in the Women’s Doubles 40+ Category at the Manorama BWF World Senior Badminton Championships held in Kochi from 11th to 17th September 2017.

Supriya and Nancy had a shaky start in the playoffs, beaten by the Russian pair Olga Bryant and Olga Kuznetsova 16-21, 19-21. However,  Supriya and Nancy bounced back form their first match loss to defeat the Swedish-Norweigan pair of Anja Olsen and Marie Svdell  21-11, 21-13 to  qualify for the quarter final stage of the tournament.

 

Facing the Indonesian-Korean pairing of Elizabeth Tjandra and Hye Jeong Han, the Indian pair stamped their authority as they marched on to the semi-finals with a  21-19, 21-13 win.  victory. However, their run came to a halt in the semi finals where they lost to Louise Culyer and Dorte Steenberg 13-21, 16-21.

 

Supriya  also won a bronze medal in Singapore last month in the doubles category for the Indian Masters squad at the Foo Kok Keong International Cup 2017.
