‘Trapped’ presents a realistic happening in an artistic way

Known for films like ‘Lootera’ and ‘Udaan’ as a director, Vikramaditya Motvane has also produced eight films including his last one ‘Shandaar’. Now, his latest film as a director ‘Trapped’ has given him ample scope to present his creativity, to show a realistic happening in the life of a young man, who is desperate  to impress his girlfriend with his new rented flat in a disputed multi-storey building, without occupation certificate. Trapped photo

Shaurya( RajKumar Rao) is actually cheated by a bogus  estate agent, who offers him a rented 1 BHK flat in a tower, which is under dispute. Shaurya enters the flat without checking essential things and is about to invite his girlfriend Noorie( Geetanjali Thapa) to impress her, so that she should immediately agree to marry him.  After shifting, when Shaurya is about to leave his flat  in a hurry, he leaves his house key hanging at the lock outside and the door gets double locked, when he enters in to pick up his cell phone. Shaurya gets trapped inside the flat. He tries all his methods to break open the lock  besides raising an alarm for help, but in vain, as he lives on a higher floor.

How he survives for the next few days and his attempts to seek help from outside, has been skillfully shown by the film maker. But, almost 40 minutes of this 105 minutes  long  film are without dialogues.  However, some of the moments like Shaurya’s desperation to fill water during rains have been well captured. At some moments, the film does make the audience think, as to what could happen, if the flat is occupied by a tenant in a hurry, without checking some essential requirements including  safety measures.

The film’s screenplay has succeeded in keeping the audience engaged from start to finish. Frankly speaking, this low budget film can be categorized under ‘art’ film. Raj Kumar Rao has given a wonderful realistic performance. Geetanjali Thapa doesn’t have much to do in this film; but the few scenes she has been part of, look realistic, especially the concluding scene. Music by Alokananda Dasgupta is apt for this type of subject. Therefore, real film lovers would surely enjoy this film.  A good effort by film maker Vikramaditya Motvane.
