Junior Shreya Deshpande and Siddhesh Pande shared the honours on the final day of the the Jindal- Thane District Ranking Table Tennis Ranking Tournament hosted and sponsored by by JSW Steel and Jindal Table Tennis Academy at their complex at Vasind here today. Shreya crowned herself with the women’s, youth and juniors girls singles titles, while Siddhesh ended the fine run of favourite Sanish Ambekar by beating him in the men’s as well as youth boys finals.

However, for junior Shreya, the victories were all the more sweet as both in the women’s and youth girls finals her rival state’s top paddler lefthander Shruti Amrute had her chances before Shreya emerged victorious. Shreya beat Shruti 11-5,7-11,14-12,9-11,8-11,12-10,14-12 in the women’s and 11-6,11-9,9-11,4-11,11-6,7-11,11-7 in the youth girls final. Earlier, Shreya had brushed aside Disha Hulawle 11-6,11-5,11-6,11-5 in the juniors girls final.
Siddhesh, after trailing 0-2 to Sanish, prouduced a stunning fight back to beat his rival 8-11,9-11,11-7,9-11,11-9 12-10,11-9 in the youth boys final. And in the men’s final, Sanish appeared to have lost the will to fight as Siddhesh virtually outplayed him, winning the tie, 11-7,9-11,11-4,11-8,11-4.

Others to share the day’s limelight were Deepit Patil, who won the junior and sub-junior boys titles and Arya Songadkar, winner of the Sub-junior and cadet girls singles finals. Hosts Jindal TT Academy had the satisfaction of seeing two of their trainees, Poonam Yadav (sub-junior girls) and Jitendra Yadav (sub-junior boys) finishing second best in their respective evens.
