Striker Tripti Deep was at her striking best and scored a remarkable 12 goals to power Gondia to a thumping 22-0 win against a hapless Amravati in a lop-sided Group-C match, of the LIC-Maharashtra (WIFA) State Inter-District Senior Women’s Football Championship -2016, organized by MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) and played at the Goan Sports Association ground, Cross Maidan on Wednesday.
Tripti had scored the lone winning goal in Gondia’s narrow 1-0 win against Jalgaon on Tuesday.
The dashing forward Tripti got down to business almost immediately firing in the opening goal in the first minute of the match and then struck three more to give her team a 4-0 advantage by the 12th minute. Thereafter, Dikha B (3 goals), Heena V. (5 goals) and Soniya Deep (2 goals) also joined the party as Tripti went on to score eight more goals to round of the goals tally.
This was second big defeat for Amravati, who were beaten 15-0 by Kolhapur in the first group match.
In another Group-C encounter, Kolhapur and Jalgaon played out a goalless draw.
The outcome of the concluding group match between Gondia and Kolhapur on Thursday will decide which team finishes as the number one in the group and qualifies for the semi-final.
