Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra recently commented that women don’t feel safe in Mumbai. The rising cases of crime against women has certainly worried them. Even otherwise, simply making a separate compartment in trains and reserved seats in buses, doesn’t serve the purpose of safety to women. There should be security provided at places like bus stands, railway stations and also at deserted streets. Even taxis and autos, should have proper security measures. Also, what about the travelling hazards faced by women in Mumbai ? There are no proper toilets for women at railway stations and bus stands.
Magzmumbai recently met a young working woman Pallavi Salunke , who lives at Dahisar and travels daily to her office at Vikhroli and back. She feels that she spends lot of her time in travelling. “Sometimes, I spend 3 to 3 and half hours daily, only on travelling. The entire stretch of Western Express highway from Dahisar to Andheri is very slow moving, during morning hours, when I leave for office. Then again, there is heavy traffic jam on JVLR. Same is the case, on returning home in the evening. Constructing flyovers, hasn’t reduced the traffic. We need another metro rail to link Borivali-kandivali with Eastern Express Highway. Travelling by Ghodbunder road, is also time consuming.” She said.
Pallavi regrets that she doesn’t find time on working days to help her mother. “ I even don’t find time to do exercises. Therefore, I try to get up from my seat in office, in between, to walk down and fill up my water bottle. I also oblige my colleagues, by filling their water bottles too. Isn’t that a good exercise and making others happy ? ” she questions. But, this clearly indicates that she drinks plenty of water, which is good for health.
