‘Stree’ offers comedy with a difference

Latest released Hindi film ‘Stree’  can very well be called a  comedy horror film, which is directed by debutant Amar Kaushik.  Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. the film  is based on the Indian urban legend, Nale Ba-  a witch, who knocks on people’s doors at night. And this myth  has prompted the makers to present this subject through their film. The film stars Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead along with Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee  who  appear in supporting roles.  Stree

Set on the backdrop of a  strange town of Chanderi,  where the  ghost of an angry woman stalks men during the festival period. This ghost, simply referred to as “Stree,” calls out for men when they are alone and abducts them, leaving their clothes behind.  A tailor in this town, Vicky ( Rajkumar Rao) , falls in love with a mysterious unnamed girl( Shraddha Kapoor)  who only appears during that festival season. Her frequent disappearing acts, makes his friends suspicious about this girl  and they start believing that she could be the Stree who is haunting the city. After the disappearance one of  one of his friends,  Vicky attempts to find out more about this myth.

‘Stree;’ has limited story but good dialogues by Sumit Arora and fine performances by all the artistes makes this film  entertaining. Music by Sachin Jigar is apt for this kind of story. Could have been still better, if more attention was paid to make the screenplay more gripping. All in all ‘Stree’ offers a comedy with a difference. Good for time pass.
