14 year old Divyanshi Bhowmick from Mumbai has bagged a Gold medal for India in Girls Under-15 Singles, at the 29th Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship which concluded today at Tashkent, Uzbekistan. With this big achievement, she becomes the first Indian girl in last 36 years to win this prestigious championship. Last time in 1989 Subramanian Bhuvaneswari had won this championship in New Delhi.With this memorable win, Divyanshi also finds her direct entry into the World Youth TT Championship to be held in November in Romania.

On her way to bag this Gold, Divyanshi defeated three Chinese girls namely Huize Yang, Ziling Liv & Qihui ZHU in Q/F. S/F and Finals respectively. Earlier, in the Round of 16, she had defeated Uriv Hisa from Japan.

Divyanshi had a tough match against L. Ziling of China in the semi finals, as the match stretched to seven games and every game witnessed a great fightback from both the players. In the decider down 6-9, Divyanshi fought back very well to level the scores at 9-9 , which helped her to win that game and match. In comparison, she had a comfortable 4-2 victory over ZHU Qihui in the finals, as she looked more confident throughout the match.
This was a big achievement for Divyanshi, who has been consistently performing very well at the National and International level matches, for the past two years. It was a proud moment for Divyanshi and all the Indians, when India’s National anthem was played after she received her Gold medal and trophy. Reacting on her daughter’s grand success, her mother Preeti Arora Bhowmick said that it was a proud moment for all of them, after 36 years when our National anthem was played on such a big stage. Divyashi’s parents have always provided a strong moral support to her in her progress.
