Deshwal Twins Make Waves at 51st Junior National Aquatic Championships 2025

In a week of record-breaking performances and thrilling finishes, twin sisters Anvi and Saanvi Deshwal emerged as the undisputed stars of the 51st Junior National Aquatic Championships 2025, held in Ahmedabad from August 3–7. Representing Maharashtra, the “Twin Torpedoes” combined dazzling speed with steely determination, claiming a remarkable 10 gold medals, 3 silvers, and setting 4 new Junior National Records, spearheading their state’s charge to the Girls’ Group II team championship.

The Girls’ Group II category saw Maharashtra shine, powered by the Deshwal sisters’ exceptional performances. While Saanvi stamped her authority in breaststroke and medley events, Anvi excelled in backstroke and freestyle. Together, they also anchored all three relay golds.

Saanvi Deshwal – Maharashtra’s Golden Girl, smashes her way through record breaking performances 4 times

Saanvi delivered a championship-defining campaign, clinching five individual golds and four new Junior National Records, earning the coveted Best Swimmer (Girls’ Group II) title.

Gold Medal Performances & Records:

  • 200m Medley – 2:23.67 (NMR, previous: 2:25.00 – Tanishi Gupta, 2023)
  • 100m Breaststroke – 1:14.10 (NMR, previous: 1:15.30 – Saanvi Deshwal, 2024)
  • 200m Breaststroke – 2:42.38 (NMR, previous: 2:43.50 – Vedika Amin, 2018)
  • 400m Medley – 5:08.87 (NMR, previous: 5:10.70 – Hashika Ramachandra, 2022)
  • 50m Breaststroke – 34.60 (Record holder since 2024)

Her 200m Breaststroke win was particularly special — breaking a seven-year-old meet record set by Vedika Amin in 2018. Saanvi’s blend of technical mastery, composure under pressure, and relentless drive cements her status as one of India’s brightest swimming prospects.

Anvi Deshwal – Backstroke & Freestyle Specialist

Not to be outdone, Anvi powered her way to two individual golds, three relay golds, and three individual silvers.

Anvi won Gold Medals  in 400m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke; and Silver Medals in 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle

Her dominance in backstroke and strength in freestyle made her a constant podium finisher and a vital contributor to Maharashtra’s relay supremacy.
