‘Jazbaa’ – Good performances by Irrfan, Atul & Shabana

Review of film ‘Jazbaa’

Not all remakes of foreign films have been successful in Bollywood. Latest released Hindi film ‘Jazbaa’ produced by Sanjay Gupta, Aishwarya Rai , distributed by EsselVision and directed by Sanjay Gupta , which is a remake of South Korean Film ‘Seven Days’ had raised lot of expectations, as it was a comeback film of Aishwarya Rai. But, except for good performances by few artistes and good cinematography by Sameer Arya, the film has failed to appeal.jazbaa

The story of this film, revolves around Anuradha Verma (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), who is a prominent criminal lawyer, a single mother, who has never lost a case. One day her daughter Sanaya (Sara Arjun) is kidnapped and instead of demanding ransom , the kidnapper tells her to defend a criminal, who has been convicted in a rape n murder of a young woman.

So, like a typical English crime based film, the kidnapper keeps track of Anuradha and her movements. A suspended Police officer Yohan ( Irrfan Khan) , then tries to help her. The case against the criminal is handled by a renowned public prosecutor ( Atul Kulkarni). Anuradha, who has her own game plan, which is noticed in the rest of the film, with twists and turns in the case.

The plot of this film is good; but not all borrowed plots are suited to Indian audience and that too in the present time, with media being so watchful. The screenplay of this film, is also not very appealing. Some new techniques have  been tried in this film, to take you into flashback.  Music of the film is not at all impressive; though back ground music is good in the post interval session. Sameer arya’s cinematography is a plus point of this film.

Speaking about performances, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has over reacted in many scenes. But, she has maintained herself well and fits into the role, as she plays her age. But, good performances come from Irrfan Khan & Shabana Azmi. All in all, the film has turned out to be an average action film, based on crime investigation.
