Carrom Queen Maitreyi Gogate who has won the National Youth Carrom Championship, besides winning her maiden State Ranking Carrom Tournamenttitle, has been conferred with the Shiv Chhatrapati Award for the year 207-18 . Originally from Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, Maitreyi began playing carom at a very young age, after being inspired by her elder sister, who was a good carom player. She received a lot of encouragement from her father, who used to accompany her for every tournament she played and this helped Maitreyi to win titles one after the other.

Few years ago, Maitreyi shifted to Mumbai to enable her to play with better players at the competitive level and also for her higher studies. At present she is also pursuing her studies for C.A. She also works in a chartered accountant firm and manages to find free time playing carom. This prestigious state award will certainly boost her confidence and we look forward for more titles from her at the national and international level. Maitreyi was also felicitated recently by the state & national carom associations along with the hosts Sindhudurg carom Association at the hands of Mr. Josef Meyer at Kudal president of International carom federation , before the start of the National Carrom Championship.
