If we recall, all those past Bollywood films like ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ and likes, we have noticed the lead pair coming together, during their childhood, with the girl from a rich family and the boy from a poor family. They disperse and then come together, when they are of marriage age. But, we notice that the girl is going to get married to a boy from a rich family. So, after meeting each other after a long time and spending some time together, they disperse once again, only to reunite in the climax of the film.
The story of latest released Hindi film ‘Fitoor’ produced by Siddharth Roy Kapoor and presented by UTV, is set on the backdrop of Kashmir and is nothing different than a typical love story mentioned above. Noor (Mohammed Abrar) a thirteen year old Kashmiri boy, who belongs to a poor family, meets beautiful teenager Firdaus , who is daughter of Begum( Tabu) from elite family living in a big haveli. Noor works in their house, doing petty jobs, but is more interested in his art work. Begum who is heartbroken during her young age ( Aditi Rao Hydari) splits the teenagers and insults Noor about his social status, after she comes to know, the closeness of Noor and Firdaus.
Some years later, we find Noor (Aditya Roy Kapur) moving to Delhi on the scholarship offered by an unknown person and he becomes a renowned artist. He even tours to London , with his exhibits. Then, he returns to his town, with his newly acclaimed status . Firdaus (Katrina Kaif) is engaged to son of a Pakistani parliamentarian , whom she knows , from her days in London, while studying over there. However, she still has soft corner towards Noor. And, they reunite towards the end of the film, after a long stretched screenplay.
Katrina Kaif looks good, but her pairing with Aditya Roy Choudhay looks odd, as the hero is shown in disappointed mood all the time in the film, sometimes without expressions. Tabu does well Begum, in her own style. After all, she is a versatile actress. In the role of Firdaus’ boyfriend Billal, Rahul Bhatt is good. Lara Dutta and Ajay Deogan are seen in small roles, with nothing much to do. The length of the film, is over stretched in many scenes , during the post interval session. Moreover, barring one or two small twists, the film is predictable from start till the end. Background music is just appropriate for this kind of film. But, there are too many songs. Good Cinematography by Anay Goswami is the plus point of this film. He has captured beautiful outdoor locations, very skilfully.
As the film is based on Charles Dicken’s novel ‘Great Expectations’ , much was expected. But, considering the hard work put in by the team, it is just good enough , for one time watch, especially, if you are a great fan of Katrina kaif and Tabu. Otherwise, there is nothing extraordinary, in this film. All in all, it is a predictable average love story.
