Cricket is a religion of India and therefore any film based on the game of cricket or a cricketer always receives good response from the audience. There were biopics made on the lives of famous cricketers. But, have you heard of a film on the struggle of a little known cricketer ? Producers Shital Bhatia, Sudip Tiwari, writer Kiran Yadnyopavit and director Jayprad Desai have an answer to this question. Their latest film ‘Kaun Pravin Tambe?’ has been premiered on OTT platform and is now available for viewing from 1st April on Disney+ Hotstar.

This film presents the real life struggle of a cricketer Pravin Tambe aspiring to play Ranaji trophy. He has this big dream right from the age of 12 years and pursues his dream to turn reality till he attains the age of 40, keeping more attention on his physical fitness. Pravin finally made it big at the age of 41 and became the oldest ever IPL debutant. Thanks to Rahul Dravid who invited him to play for Rajasthan Royals. At that time, he had never played professional cricket but only club level cricket. So, receiving recognition at the age of 41 after a long struggle proved to be the perfect choice of script for this film, which has been presented so well by director Jayprad Desai, who had earlier directed TV series like ‘ Nagrik’ and ‘Hutatma’.
Shreyas Talpade who plays the title role in this film, has proved himself too good in this role. He has put in his heart and soul into this character paying more attention to technicalities of cricket. His wife is played by talented Anjali Patil who plays a perfect housewife, while parents are played by versatile artistes like Arun Nalawade and Chhaya Kadam. There is good scope for actor Parambrata Chatterjee ( ‘Kahani’ fame) who plays the role of Sports Journalist Rajat Sanyal. He has also played the part of a narrator in this film. Veteran artistes Arif Zakaria and Ashish Vidyarthi have done well in their respective roles of Sports promoter and Coach respectively.
Good thing about this film is that the screenplay is made very interesting with the sequencing of events in perfect order. The exciting IPL match moments in which he took a hat trick for Rajasthan Royals team have been captured very well. Thanks to BCCI for providing the support. At the same time the emotion filled moments with his family members are also well presented. Sudhir Palsane’s photography, Anurag Saikia’s music and perfect editing by Ghorakshanath Khande makes this film more presentable. Certainly, a worth watch film for all.
