Today, Stress has become an Integral part of our lives. But, excessive stress is always bad. Whether it is pressure of studies among children, expectations of good performance from a sportsperson or from an employee at workplace, there is always rise in stress, while achieving the goal. And the result is that today majority of ailments are stress related, which gives rise to increase in blood pressure or depression.

Today, even youngsters in the age group of 30 + are vulnerable to heart ailments. Many a times, when a person suffers heart attack, it takes a lot of time to move to a hospital. In such cases, first aid methods like Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation( CPR) helps to save a life.

Keeping this in mind, PJ Hindu Gymkhana, Marine Drive had organised a medical awareness Programme yesterday, especially related to heart care. Many renowned medical professionals in the field of cardiology were present to brief the members and prominent among them was Sr. Cardiologist and director of Saifee Hospital Dr. Iqbal Bagasrawala. Others who briefed about the precautions to be taken to avoid heart attack, were Dr. Ankur Ulhas Phatarpekar is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, Dr Shilpa Verma – Physician & Internal Medicine Specialist. Dr. Aditya Agarwal, actually demonstrated the CPR method, using a dummy.
Almost all the doctors were of the opinion that smoking , stress and excessive drinking was bad for heart. But, Dr. Iqbal Bagasrawala made everybody understand it better, explaining in a humorous way, during the question –answer session. Answering a question from a badminton player, he explained how the stress increased in sports too. If you were partying till 2 am midnight and playing early in the morning on badminton court or shifting from your regular doubles games schedule to Singles, you are stressing yourself more. He advised all the sportspersons above 60 years to undergo regular stress test, if they feel the stress while playing.
Dr.Kishore Gundecha, medical practitioner and an active member of the Gymkhana had organised this programme with the help of Indian medical Association, Mumbai. Earlier, Ulhas Shirke, on behalf of the Gymkhana welcomed the medical professionals and the participants for this programme. He also explained how important was this awareness programme in today’s busy lifestyle and suggested IMA to conduct such programmes in colleges and other Gymkhana/ clubs.
