‘Scam 1992 The Harshad Mehta Story ’exposes the system lapses

Set in 1980’s and 90’s in the city of Mumbai, then called Bombay, ‘Scam 1992′ a recently released web series on Sony Liv follows the life of Harshad Mehta, a stockbroker who took the stock market to great heights. It also shows his terrible downfall, which followed, after a Journalist Sucheta Dalal exposed his modus operandi, which led to his arrest , inquiry and finally his tragic end.Scam 1992

The series is sort of a Biopic, showing how a young man from a joint Gujarathi family got attracted to this stock market business after studying the loopholes to become a Big Bull of this trade. So, you find the growth of Harshad Mehta with the turn of every episode which also expose the system then followed by financial institutions and the Big Bull becoming more powerful with the blessings received from some top political leaders and a so called Swami who is close to top politicians.

What is interesting to watch is the actual functioning of the print media and the investigative journalism practiced by a few. But, at the same time it is disturbing to listen to the bad language used by many characters in this series, as the makers seem to have taken the liberty  exercised by the web series . Otherwise, this is a well presented realistic subject, based on the book written by Sucheta Dalal and Debasish Basu. The performances are superb and the selection of each artiste for the respective character is just perfect. Certainly a worth watch for all those who are into stock market.
