Any big banner Hindi film with big names in its star cast obviously invites the attention of film lovers in the city of Mumbai. But, this has not been true in the case of much talked about Diwali release ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ starring big artistes like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif. Tickets of this film were available for Saturday shows at many multiplexes, which clearly indicates that this film has failed to impress the audience.
Though this is a Fantasy epic action-adventure film set on the backdrop of 1795 when India was then ruled by expanding British East India Company, it has a weak screenplay, which is major drawback. Moreover, the Critics didn’t seem to be satisfied with the presentation of this film and therefore the film has failed to gain not more than 2.5 star ratings from popular media critics. Even on social networking media, the reaction of the film lovers has gone against this film.
Therefore, having been released in more than 5000+ screens all over India, it does not make any sense to know about the earnings made by this film. But, in Mumbai this film has certainly failed to invite the expected crowds during week end. On the other hand, a Marathi film ‘Ani kashinath Ghanekar’ a biopic on Marathi Theatre’s first and last superstar, has received overwhelming response in Mumbai and all over Maharashtra in spite of receiving limited screens. This Marathi film presented by Viacom18 Motion Pictures is running full houses every where, thus posing a big scare to Bollywood on the lines of South films.
