Chitresh leads Optimist field


Chitresh T of the Tamil Nadu Sailing Association (TNSA) emerged the leading Optimist sailor after he bagged 5th place in the first race and came 1st in the second race at the Wet-n-Wild Regatta at Pawana Lake, Lonavala, on Friday. Nithya Balachandran (TNSA) stood 2nd and M Srikanth of Telengana 3rd in the first race, while R Neelanand and Anirudh, both of TNSA, stood 2nd and 3rd in Race 2.

 

One of the most popular sailing dinghies in the world, there are over 150,000 boats officially registered with the class, in over 120 countries.

Even here at the Wet-n-Wild regatta, the Optimist is the largest single class of boat, with 52 entries.

 

Deep Rekhi and M Vidya of the Royal Madras Yacht Club (RMYC) won both races in the double-hander 420 class, while Nitin Mongia and Yannez Aref of the Sailing School of India (SSI) won both races in the Enterprise class. In the Laser Standard, Dilip Kumar of the EME Sailing Club (EMESA), Secundrabad, bagged both races.

 

In Laser Radial, Ramya Sarvanan of CESC won in Race 1, while Sachin Singha of EMESA was second in Race 1 but 1st in Race 2. Toppers and Windsurfers had only two entries each. Derrick Menezes of Goa Yachting Association (GYA) won both windsurfing races, while Krisha Mongia and Maya Singapuri, both of SSI, split honours in the Topper class.
