Daksh and Omi win tennis titles


It was a day for the young tennis players on the 12th day of the Sports For All 2016 here at the DY Patil Stadium on Friday, with Daksh Kukreti of Avalon Heights International School and Omi Mehta of Sadhu Vaswani International School running away with the top honours in the Under-10 boys’ and girls’ category.

Omi Mehta of Sadhu Vaswani International School (Centre) emerged as the winner of the girls' Under-10 category, while Aahana Attavar of Fr. Agnel Multipurpose School & Junior College (Vashi) won the silver (left). The bronze medal went to Anandi Bhutada of Ramseth Thakur Public School (right) won the bronze at Sports For All, here today at DY Patil Stadium.

Omi Mehta of Sadhu Vaswani International School (Centre) emerged as the winner of the girls’ Under-10 category, while Aahana Attavar of Fr. Agnel Multipurpose School & Junior College (Vashi) won the silver (left). Daksh, who has been in top form throughout the tournament, made the match a one side-affair and beat Ardhaan Sethi of Jamnabai Narsee School 4-1, 4-0 to cruise his way to the title. In the third place match play-off match Vivaan Prakash of Jamnabai Narsee School beat Aditya Pawar of St. Xavier’s High School & Junior College (Nerul) 4-0, 4-0, to win the bronze medal.

 

Omi dominated the proceedings to win the match 4-0, 4-1 against Aahana Attavar of Fr. Agnel Multipurpose School & Junior College (Vashi) to walk away with the gold medal. Anandi Bhutada of Ramseth Thakur Public School won the bronze by beating Urvee Kate of Gundecha Education Academy 4-1, 4-2.

 

The day also marked the opening day of the judo competition with the Under-14 boys’ stealing the limelight in different age categories. Asif Gauri of Kherwadi Mumbai Public School won the gold in the -30 kgs weight category, while Aquib Shaik of St. Annes High School won the -34 kgs weight classification. Ved Thomse of Pawar Public School took the top prize in the -38 kgs weight classification, while Aditya Tambe of Balmohan Vidya Mandir (Marathi) and Nihar Darekar of St. Paul High School won in the -60kgs and -66 kgs category respectively. Ayush Phalke of the Dadar Parsee Youth Assembly High School emerged as the winner in -46 kgs.

In the boys’ Under-14 boxing championships, Shubham Pawade of Maharashtra Military School Talavali (Baragaon) won his bout by a technical knockout against his schoolmate Sahil Bhanushali in the 38 kgs weight category. In the boys’ Under-17 category, Sagar Patade of Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil Vidyalaya Jaichandra (Vasai) won his match against Anil Man Singh of Municipal School (Borivali) through a technical knock-out in the 48 kgs. In the boys’ under -17 competition, Jadhav Dakshal of Maharashtra Military School Talavali (Baragaon) won his bout by a technical knockout against Ayaz Shaikh of Marol Municipal Urdu Secondary School in the 50 kgs age classification.

 

In the girls’ Under-14 football competition, DPS Nerul beat Janki Devi Public School 3-0 in a league stage game, while Billabong High International School, Thane beat St. Lawrence High School 3-1. RBK School, Mira Road won their match 2-0 against Jamnabai Narsee International School.

 

In the basketball girls’ Under-10 category, Children’s Academy, Thakur Complex beat Vibgyor High School, Malad 6-while Billabong International High School, Thane beat Gundecha Education Society 5-3. Kohinoor International School won 8-5 against JBCN International School, Parel.

 

Siddharth Bhuta of SMT. R.S.B Arya Vidya Mandir cruised into the quarterfinals of the Under-13 badminton category with a 15-14,9-15 &15-11 victory over Aaryavardhan Jadhav of The Dadar Parsee Youth Assembly High School, while Aadit Kapase of S.E.S. High School & Jr. College ( Thane ) beat Hanesh Bangeja of DY Patil International School, Nerul  15-8,12-15,15-5 to make it to the round of eight. Shubh Agarwal of R.N Podar School (Santa Cruz) made it to the last eight with a 15-10,15-8 win over Vishrut Doshi of Tridha International School.
