KVB, Egyptians record wins


Kalina Village Boys (KVB) and Egyptian Boys both, recorded hard-fought wins in the inaugural round of the 15th Kalina Football League, organised by the Our Lady of Egypt Chruch Sports Committee, and played at the St. Mary’s High School ground.

In a keenly contested encounter, Rayan Shaikh netted the lone goal to guide Kalina Village Boys to a narrow 1-0 victory. In another match, Egyptian Boys worked hard to score a close 2-1 win against Kolivery Welfare Association ‘A’. Strikers Rohit Jacinto and Ashfak Khan were bang on target for Egyptian Boys while Reldyn Jacinto struck the only goal for the losers.

Meanwhile, Indian footballer Raju Gaikwad who during his formative days participated in the Kalina Premier League, was named ‘Ambassador’ of this edition of the tournament.

The tall Indian defender Gaikwad in the presence of Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Harry Vaz and local Corporator and benefactor Brian Miranda, inaugurated the tournament. Also present at the opening ceremony was the other committee members and well-wishers.

Indo-Nest 1 (Sheldon Fernandes) beat Kalina Village Boys ‘B’ 0.

Egyptian Boys 2 (Rohit Jacinto, Ashfak Khan) beat Kolivery Welfare Association ‘A’ 1 (Reldyn Jacinto).

Air-India Colony – 2 (Sachin Medhar 2) drew with Kolivery Welfare Association ‘B’ 2 (Sunder Poojara OG, Noel Mascarenhas).

Kalina Rangers 1 (Anthony Machado) beat Kalina Village Boys ‘C’ 0.
