Greater Mumbai’s Pooja Kachare and Satara’s Siddhi Jadhav were the most impressive winners as both made the girls under-17 singles semifinals of the DY Patil-Maharashtra State Open badminton tournament, hosted by Badminton Organisation of Raigad at the badminton courts in DY Patil stadium here today.
While second seeded Siddhi was pretty graceful and aggressive as she thrashed Mumbai city’s Ritika Paliath in the pre-quarters and followed it with another straight games (15-11, 15-14) win over fancied Rudra Rane from Greater Mumba to make the last four grade. But Pooja was stretched by her district-mate Shreya Shastry to the hilt in the pre-quarters, but she asserted herself in the quarters as she romped home 15-9, 15-7 againstPrishits Sinha.
In the boys under-13 singles, Aurangabad’s Prathmesh Kulkarni went through a hard-fought battle against Mumbai Suburbs Aadit Jain besfore the former triumphed 15-12, 11-15, 15-14. In the same section Nirban Pal , from Pune made heavy weather while scoring over Anay Choudhary,also from Pune before making the semifinals with score-board reading 15-7, 14-15, 15-11 in his favour..
