78th UPL-Police Shield to start from Friday

The 78th UPL-Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2025-26, organized jointly by the Commissionerate of Police Greater Mumbai and the Police Shield Committee will commence from Friday, October 10, 2025.

Hosts Mumbai Police Gymkhana and Cricket Club of India (CCI) will meet in the opening match of the tournament at the Police Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive on Friday.

Besides Police Gymkhana and CCI, a total of 16 teams, including defending champions P.J. Hindu Gymkhana, will be competing to emerge champions. The 16 teams have been divided into four groups of four each and the initial rounds will be played on a round-robin format.

The top four teams from each ground will qualify to play the semi-finals.

Deven Bharti (IPS), the Hon’ble Commissioner of Police, Greater Mumbai and Chairman of the Tournament, will inaugurate the tournament and toss the coin to decide which team bats or bowls first.

MCA Office Bearers, Apex Council members, representatives of the participating teams, Media Persons and cricket enthusiasts are cordially invited to attend the inaugural ceremony, scheduled for 11:45 am, to enhance the prestige of the tournament by their gracious presence.

The participating teams – Group-A: P.J. Hindu Gymkhana, Dr. D.Y. Patil SA, Karnatak SA, Parsee Gymkhana.

Group-B: Victory CC, Payyade SC, Islam Gymkhana, Shivaji Park Gymkhana.

Group-C: New Hind SC, National CC, MCA Colts, New Hind CC,

Group-D: CCI, Mumbai Police Gymkhana, Bombay Gymkhana, UPL Sponsors XI.
