Unseeded Jannia Singh and Akanksha Salunkhe advanced to the Semi- Finals of U-19 and women’s category of the Otters Club Open Squash Tournament 2018 Co-Sponsored by Rustomjee & Deutsche Bank to be played at the Otters Club squash courts on Monday.
Jannia Singh ran through the second seed Abhilasha who had no answers for the attacks from Jannia. The unseeded player dropped only 7 points on her way to an 11-3, 11-0, 11-4 victory. In another game, third seed, Tanaya Parakh defeated Sparshi Mattas in an epic 5 game thriller to reach the semis. Tanaya started the game on a shaky note losing the first game 6-11. She managed to steal some crucial points in the second game but Sparshi managed to hold off the third seed beating her 11-9 in the second game. Tanaya bounced back after the setback and took the third game 11-8, thereafter it was smooth sailing for Tanaya who outsmarted the talented Sparshi to take the fourth and fifth game 11-6, 11-4 eventually winning the tie by 6-11, 9-11,11-8, 11-6, 11-4.
In the Women’s match, Unseeded Akanksha Salunkhe defeated the third seed Anna Avashti to reach the semi-finals. Akanksha overpowered Anna who succumbed to an 11-4, 11-1, 11-3 defeat. In another match, Top seed Urvashi Joshi ran through the unseeded Jaya Pandey beating her 11-3, 11-2, 11-6. Second Seed Sachika also did not face any resistance from the unseeded Aakanksha Yadav dropping only 5 points on her way to an 11-0, 11-3, 11-2 victory.
