Sangeet Natak Academy Award for Mumbaikar Shubhada Varadkar

Renowned Odissi exponenr and practitioner of Indian classical music for the past 50 years, Shubhada Varadkar from Mumbai has been conferred with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar. This award is a significant milestone that honors her lifelong dedication, artistic excellence, and tireless efforts in propagating the beauty of Odissi. Her brother Shekhar Varadkar- veteran TT player confirmed this news , while speaking to magzmumbai.com.

This Akademi Award carries a purse money of Rs. 1,00,000/-(Rupees one lakh only), besides a Tamrapatra and Angavastram. 64 year old Shubhada had earlier received the Maharashtra State Cultural Award 2019–20. She has done her Master of Arts degree from Mumbai University and a diploma in Bharat Natyam from the Kalasadan Institute of Fine Arts.

Shubhada, who is the disciple of Kelucharan Mohapatra, is also an author of  ‘Glimpses of Indian Classical Dance and Mayurpankh’. She is the Daughter of Indian freedom fighters Manohar Varadkar and Manik Varadkar. Being from a sports loving family, she is a good Pickleball player.
