There are many stories of actors who were offered a particular role in a film; but later the same role was played by another actor. And, the film becoming a super hit. Dilip Kumar was first offered the role of Birju in the film ‘Mother India’. Later, that role went to Sunil Dutt and we know the success story of ‘Mother India’. 
Similarly, Director Vijay Anand’s first choice was Raaj Kumar to play the parallel role with Dev Anand. But, he said ‘No’ to this offer. This role was later played by Ashok Kumar and the film became a hit. We also heard that Prakash Mehra first offered the lead role of his film ‘Zanjeer’ to many top heroes like Raaj Kumar, Dev Anand and others, before finalising Amitabh Bachchan .
But, did you know that Dev Anand was the first choice of three super hit films, which later went to Shammi Kapoor. The names of these films are, ‘Tumsa Nahin Dekha’, ‘Junglee’ and Teesri Manzil’. In fact, for ‘Teesri Manzil’ the stage was all set for Dev Anand, who had even done photo shoot for this film. By the way, today 21st October ‘Teesri Manzil’ completes 54 years of its release.
