Mumbai’s Aansh Nerurkar wins U-11 National Chess Championship at Visakhapatnam


11 year old Aansh Nandan Nerurkar , sixth standard student of Orchids International School, Borivali Branch , Mumbai , Maharashtra, has won the 36th National Under-11 Open Chess Championship which concluded at Visakhapatnam recently. Nandan scored 10 points and remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. He received cash prize of Rs 70,000 and a glittering Trophy.

The 36th National Under -11 Open Chess Championship was held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra from 1st to 7th October 2023 for a total Prize money of Rs 8 Lakhs. This mega National event had attracted 385 participants in Open section from 27 States of India out of which 277 were International Fide rated players.

Born on 4 Oct 2012 in Margoa, Goa , Aansh started Playing Chess from the year 2018-19. He is currently trained by Mr. Prasad Deshmukh from Borivali, Mumbai. Aansh has represented Maharashtra State in chess at various National level tournaments. Besides this Gold medal won at Visakhapatnam Nationals, some of his exemplary achievement in other All India tournaments are , National Bronze Medal (3rd Position) in 34th National Iner-10 Open chess championship Held at Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir from 26 April-1 May 2022, 4th Position in 35th National Under -11 Open Chess Championship held at Gurugram, Haryana from 29th October to 6th November 2022 and 2nd Position in All India Fide rated tournament (Surya Trophy) in Vadodara, Gujarat in January 2023

Aansh Is having current International Chess rating of 1865 and he is currently ranked 3rd  in entire India in his age category, based on International ELO performance rating. He is expected to jump to Rank 2 due to his current resounding win in the National U11 championship, .when the updated rating list will be published on 1 Nov 2023
