Renowned Theatre, Television and film personality Vijaya Mehta passed away yesterday, due to old age. She was 91. She was fonder member of theatre group Rangayan, with famous playwight Vijay Tendulkar and renowned actors Arwind Deshpande and Shriram Lagoo.
Vijaya Mehta was known for her memorable roles in films like Party ( 1984), for her directorial venture Raosaheb( 1986) in which as an actress she won her a National award and films like Kalyug, ‘Hamidabaiki Kothi & Pestonjee( 1988). She also directed popular Hindi TV serial ‘Lifeline’. Her last film as an actress was ‘Quest’ which was directed by Amol Palekar.
Besides winning many popular awards, she was recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy award.
